MEET ZOE. SHE BRINGS A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE TO A NEW GENERATION OF BEAUTIFUL DREAMERS IN AMERICA.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM ORIGINALLY? WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT IT?
I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN BELGIUM AND I HAVE ROOTS IN BURUNDI AND RWANDA (CENTRAL AFRICA). MY MOM WAS BORN THERE, BUT SHE MOVED IN HER 20’S TO BELGIUM. SINCE I WAS LITTLE I WOULD GO THERE ON VACATIONS WITH MY FAMILY AND I’M VERY GRATEFUL FOR THAT, BECAUSE IT’S A PART OF WHO I AM. I REMEMBER MY TIMES THERE AS SO JOYFUL, EVERYONE WAS ALWAYS SO HAPPY AND FULL OF LOVE.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO AMERICA? WHAT DOES IT REPRESENT AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TODAY?
THE FIRST TIME WHEN I WAS HERE ON VACATION WAS BECAUSE IT’S JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS YOU HAVE TO DO ONCE IN YOUR LIFE. MY SECOND TIME WAS FOR WORK, MODELING. I CAME HERE BECAUSE AMERICA, NEW YORK ESPECIALLY, IS THE CITY OF OPPORTUNITIES.
I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO COME AND WORK HERE. IF IT WASN’T FOR NEW YORK, MY CAREER WOULDN’T BE AS SUCCESSFUL AS IT IS TODAY, I WOULDN’T HAVE KNOWN THE PEOPLE I NOW KNOW TODAY.
DESCRIBE YOUR INTERPRETATION OF THE AMERICAN DREAM:
THE AMERICAN DREAM MEANS THAT ANYONE, POOR OR RICH, WHITE OR BLACK, YOUNG OR OLD... CAN MAKE THEIR DREAM COME TRUE, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR BACKGROUND IS. YOU JUST HAVE TO WORK FOR IT.
